Hormones are chemical substances produced by endocrine glands.
They travel through the bloodstream to target tissues and organs, where they regulate physiological processes.

Steroid Hormones: Derived from cholesterol, these hormones include cortisol, testosterone, and estrogen.
Peptide Hormones: Composed of amino acids, examples include insulin, growth hormone, and oxytocin.
Amino Acid-Derived Hormones: Derived from amino acids, examples include thyroid hormones and adrenaline.
Functions of Hormones:
Regulation of Metabolism: Hormones like insulin and thyroid hormones regulate metabolism by controlling glucose levels and metabolic rate.
Growth and Development: Growth hormone and sex hormones play a vital role in growth, development, and maturation of tissues and organs.

Ovaries: Produce estrogen and progesterone, regulating reproductive processes in females.

Parathyroid glands: Produce parathyroid hormone, regulating calcium and phosphate levels in the blood.
Thymus: Produces thymosin, regulating the development and function of T-cells in the immune system.
